Custody & Parenting Plan Setup

The Custody & Parenting Plan section in BestInterest is optional, but filling it out helps us provide you with more accurate and personalized guidance. The information you share here never leaves your account and is only used to make your co-parenting experience more peaceful and effective.

Why Add Custody & Parenting Plan Information?

• Better guidance from your Coparent Coach Your AI coach can tailor recommendations to your actual custody schedule and parenting plan. For example, if your plan specifies limited communication, the coach can help you hold that boundary.
• More effective Shield & Tone Guardian protection When your plan is uploaded, our AI knows what agreements are already in place. This allows the Shield to block inflammatory messages about topics already decided in your plan, and Tone Guardian can remind you to keep replies aligned with the rules you’ve agreed to.
• Helpful documentation support If you ever need to demonstrate what your plan states, you’ll have it securely stored in one place—separate from day-to-day communication.

Adding Children

Under Children, you can enter the names, pronouns, and ages of the children you co-parent. This helps BestInterest personalize guidance and documentation.

• Tap Add a child you coparent
• Enter their name, birthdate, and pronouns
• Tap Add

Parenting Plan Details

• Custody schedule: Select your schedule type from the dropdown.
• Parenting plan: Choose Yes if you already have a formal plan. You can then upload a PDF copy of your plan so that BestInterest can align your Shield, Tone Guardian, and Coparent Coach with it.
• Parallel parenting support: Indicate whether your plan supports a parallel parenting model (a common approach for high-conflict cases).

Coparenting Status

• Dynamic: Choose whether your situation is High Conflict or Collaborative.
• Divorce status: Indicate if your divorce is finalized.
• Attorney representation: Note if you are currently represented by an attorney.

These fields help BestInterest adjust its recommendations and reminders based on your legal and relational context.

Uploading Your Parenting Plan

To upload your parenting plan:

1. Select Yes under “Do you have a parenting plan?”
2. Tap Upload Parenting Plan and choose a PDF or document file.
3. Once uploaded, your Shield and Tone Guardian will automatically factor in your plan when filtering or coaching around co-parent communication.

For example:

• If your plan already sets pickup times, the Shield will help prevent repetitive or harassing messages about those times.
• If you need to send a message about the plan, Tone Guardian will guide you to phrase it in a way that is neutral and enforceable.
