How to export my journal entries

Why would I want to export my journal entries?

Exporting your journal entries allows you to keep a personal record of your notes for reflection, legal purposes, or sharing with a professional such as a therapist, lawyer, or mediator. Many parents find it helpful to maintain a secure copy of their journal entries as part of their overall custody documentation.

This feature does not export messages you’ve exchanged with your coparent. If you are looking to generate a verified message report with verification codes for use in court filings, please see here.

How do I export my journal entries?

To export your journal entries, follow these steps:

  1. Open the BestInterest app
  2. Tap More > Journal Export
  3. Optionally, choose a start and end date for your export. If you don’t choose a date, all journal entries will be exported.
  4. Optionally, choose to include any attached images with your export.
  5. Tap Export

How do I open the generated export?

Your journal entries will be exported in PDF readable by Adobe Acrobat or most browsers, or CSV format which is readable by any spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Simply open the file in one of those programs to view and sort your entries.

How long does it take to generate an export?

The time required depends on the size of your journal. Most exports are generated within a few seconds, but larger journals with many entries may take longer.

What does the exported file include?

The exported file includes:

  • All journal entries within the selected date range
  • Timestamps for when each entry was created
  • The full text of your journal note
  • Stamped geolocation if available

Is my exported journal secure?

Yes. The export is generated directly by your device and is not stored in the cloud and is not shared with your coparent. Please be mindful of where you save the file and who you share it with—especially if your entries include sensitive information about your children, custody, or personal experiences.
