“My Files” View

The My Files view is your central place for storing and accessing all non-image files shared within BestInterest. This list includes:

  • Files you upload directly to My Files.
  • Files sent as attachments in messages or texts through BestInterest.

Key points to know:

  • Solo Mode: Your coparent cannot view files in this list because they don’t use the app.
  • Together Mode: Your coparent can see the files you upload here. If you later invite your coparent to join your account, they’ll be able to access even older files.
  • Automatic Date Sorting: Files are shown in the order they were uploaded.
  • Deleting Files:
    • You can delete a file only if you uploaded it and it’s not attached to any other message.
    • If it is attached to a message, deleting it will remove it from My Files, but it will still be viewable in that message.
  • Opening or Saving Files:
    • Tap the download button to open the file or save it to your device.
    • Tap the edit icon to change the file’s title in the list (this title is shared between you and your coparent).
  • Supported File Types: BestInterest supports most common file formats that Firestore can store and that the app can handle, including:
    • PDF (.pdf)
    • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
    • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
    • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
    • Plain text (.txt)
    • Rich text (.rtf)
    • CSV (.csv)
    • OpenDocument formats (.odt, .ods, .odp)
    • Audio files (.mp3, .wav, .m4a)
    • Other compatible file formats where preview or download is supported
  • Note that files are NOT reviewed by the AI and may contain offensive content.

My Files – FAQ

Q: Can I delete a file?

A: Yes, with some rules:

  • You can only delete files you uploaded.
  • If the file is not attached to any other message, it will be completely removed.
  • If the file is attached to a message, deleting it will remove it from My Files but it will still be viewable in that message’s history.

Q: Can I delete a file my coparent uploaded?

A: No. Files uploaded by your coparent remain available to preserve a complete record.

Q: Can I upload images here?

A: No. My Files is for non-image files. Images are handled in the Attachments section.

Q: Who can see my files?

A: In Solo Mode, only you can view them. In Together Mode, or if you’ve invited your coparent to join your account, they can also view them.

Q: How do I open or save a file?

A: Tap the download button to open the file or save it to your device.

Q: How do I rename a file?

A: Tap the edit icon to change its title in the list. The updated title will be visible to both you and your coparent.

Q: If I send a file in a message, will it appear here?

A: Yes. Any non-image file sent as an attachment through BestInterest automatically appears in My Files.
