What Is a Disputed Transaction?

The short version

A disputed transaction is a shared expense or reimbursement that a co-parent marked as needing discussion. It stays visible in your records but is not included in the Agreed Balance while the dispute is open.

A disputed transaction is a shared expense or reimbursement that a co-parent marked as needing discussion. The transaction is not deleted, but BestInterest does not treat it as agreed while the dispute is open.

What you see in the app

  • Agreed Balance: The disputed amount is not included in the balance showing what either parent currently owes.
  • Yellow disputed box: The box shows how many transactions are disputed and their total recorded amount.
  • Transaction history: The transaction remains visible with a Disputed status. Open it to see who disputed it and the reason they provided.
  • Monthly totals: The disputed amount is identified separately from agreed expenses.

What appears in exports and reports

Disputed transactions remain in expense exports and verified expense reports so the record stays complete. They are labeled Disputed and are excluded from the Agreed Balance and agreed category totals while the dispute is open.

How a dispute is resolved

The person who disputed the transaction can open it and choose Resolve Dispute. Once resolved, the transaction returns to the agreed ledger and is included in the balance calculations again.

If a transaction needs discussion, use the dispute reason to explain the specific amount, split, or charge that needs review. Your co-parent will see that reason in the transaction details.
