Frequently Asked Questions: BestInterest App Features
What are the best co-parenting app features for high-conflict communication?
Three BestInterest features are especially useful in high-conflict situations:
- Message Shield® (Protect and up): Flags and can restate concerning incoming messages before you read the original.
- Tone Guardian™ (Protect and up): Offers optional coaching on outgoing drafts to help keep them calm and child-focused.
- Solo Mode: Lets you document, organize, and use coaching tools without requiring your co-parent to join.
Can I export my data for court?
You can download separate CSV exports of supported records on Free and paid plans, or generate structured PDF Verified Reports on Connect and higher. CSV exports do not use the Verified Report allowance or include a Certificate of Authenticity. Connect includes up to 10 Verified Reports per month, and every report can include an optional Certificate of Authenticity. Protect and Protect Plus include unlimited reports. These exports can make records easier for an attorney, mediator, or court to review, but admissibility and evidentiary weight depend on the facts and your jurisdiction.
Do both parents need to use the app for the features to work?
No. Unlike many other co-parenting apps, BestInterest is built with a Solo Mode. You can use the journal, tone coaching, and organization tools entirely on your own. If your co-parent eventually joins, you can easily switch to Collaborative Mode for more features.
What if my co-parent sends 50 messages a day just to harass me?
You can set Message Boundaries with SmartSilence™. BestInterest allows you to limit the frequency of non-urgent notifications or restrict communication to specific “windows” of time, helping you reduce notification anxiety and stay present with your kids.
Can the app detect actual emergencies?
On Protect and Protect Plus, Emergency Detection classifies likely urgent messages and can prioritize their notifications even when Smart Silence is active. AI can misclassify a message, and delivery also depends on your device and notification settings, so it should not replace emergency services or another agreed emergency channel.
I’m trying to grey rock my ex, but I struggle with what to say. Can the app help?
Our AI Coparent Coach can suggest a shorter, more neutral draft using approaches such as BIFF (Brief, Informative, Friendly, and Firm). You decide whether to use, edit, or ignore the suggestion.
My ex constantly gaslights me about past agreements. How do I stop the he-said-she-said?
Sent messages are retained with timestamps, and the private Coparenting Journal lets you document events in one place. Supported records can be organized into Verified Reports for an attorney, mediator, or other professional to review.
Is my data private from my co-parent?
Your co-parent does not see your journal entries, Coach conversations, or unsent drafts. They do see content you send or deliberately share. In Collaborative Mode, some coordination items are shared with your co-parent. See our privacy policy for how BestInterest stores and processes account data.
Is BestInterest free to use?
Yes. The Free plan includes essential features such as secure messaging, the journal, calendar, tasks, expenses, exports, and limited AI coaching.
Connect adds Boundary Line, calling, uploads, and up to 10 Verified Reports per month with an optional Certificate of Authenticity. Protect adds Message Shield, Tone Guardian, Smart Silence, unlimited reports, and other AI tools. Protect Plus adds unlimited calling plus call recording and transcription. See the current plan comparison.
How is the Co-Parent Journal different from just using the notes app on my phone?
The BestInterest Coparenting Journal keeps timestamped entries alongside other co-parenting records and supports structured exports. A notes app may be easier to edit and harder to organize, but no app can guarantee that a record will be admitted in court.
The journal itself is included on Free. Photo uploads require Connect or higher, and automatic Magic Tags™ require Protect or Protect Plus.
Can the AI really understand the nuances of a high-conflict ex?
BestInterest analyzes the context of a draft rather than relying only on a list of words. It can suggest a brief, neutral response style—including Grey Rock when selected—but AI can miss nuance and its suggestions are optional.
