Using Magic Tags™ and Manual Tags

Tags help you organize messages and private journal entries by topic. They are private to your account.

Types of tags

• Magic Tags™: On Protect and higher, BestInterest can add relevant topic tags automatically to eligible analyzed messages and new journal entries.
• Manual tags: Private labels you add and remove yourself.
• Special message labels: Message Shield can classify messages as Urgent, Concerning, Threat, Legal Threat, Inflammatory, or Coercive Control. Flagged marks a message you flagged. These labels cannot be added or removed like ordinary tags.

Add a tag

Open a message or journal entry and tap Add tag (the + Tag control). Type a label and tap Add, or choose one under SUGGESTED TAGS.

Find or remove a tag

Tap an ordinary tag once to open its action sheet. Choose Find Messages With This Tag or Find Journal Entries With This Tag to search, or choose Remove Tag From Message or Remove Tag From Journal Entry to delete the tag from that item.

Tag search is available in both Messages and Journal on every plan. Special-classification chips appear only in Messages search. Learn more about search.

Privacy and reports

Your coparent cannot see your tags or flags. Tags do not appear in printed or exported reports.

On Protect and higher, you can choose Urgent Only under Settings > Message Notifications > Smart Silence so only messages classified as urgent notify you.

System messages are a separate type of automated message rather than a visible SYSTEM tag. Learn about system messages.

Choose useful labels

Use short, consistent labels such as SCHOOL, FINANCES, COURT, or HANDOFFS. Magic Tags and special classifications can miss context, so review the underlying message or journal entry when accuracy matters. Read the AI disclaimer.
